Durham Regional Police say the six-year-old girl who was reported missing in Whitby has been located safe and sound. In an update posted Tuesday morning, police said the child, identified in the original appeal as Kaylee, was found safe and thanked the media and the public for assisting.
Kaylee was reported missing around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, after she was last seen near Dundas Street East and Thickson Road in Whitby. In the original appeal, police described her as four feet tall with a slim build, long blonde hair and blue eyes, last seen wearing a purple jacket with a hood, pink pants, and black, white and red shoes.
Durham Radio News reports she was last seen Saturday at a McDonald's near Dundas Street East and Thickson Road in Whitby with her father, who left her with his friend; she was spotted with the man Sunday in Peel Region. The father was not cooperating with the investigation and the mother could not be reached, and the grandfather reported her missing.
No Amber Alert was issued in the case because it did not meet the alert criteria, police say. DRPS lists four criteria for an Amber Alert: a confirmed abduction; the victim is a child or a person with a proven physical or mental disability; reason to believe the victim faces danger of serious physical injury; and available information that a public broadcast could assist in a safe recovery. Police say they ask the OPP to issue an Amber Alert when the criteria are met.
The missing-persons listing on the DRPS website no longer shows the case, consistent with the resolution.
