Former Whitby resident Jolene Beth Weir was among the six people presumed dead after the Latitude Air Ambulance Gulfstream G-100 known as Heartbeat 104 lost contact near Nantucket early Saturday, October 3, while transporting a patient from Bermuda to Boston. A 66-hour U.S. Coast Guard search found no survivors.

Weir, a respiratory therapist, was one of four Canadian crew members aboard the flight. Latitude Air Ambulance confirmed the loss of its four crew members and asked that the families' privacy be respected.

Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy said Weir and her husband raised their family in Whitby, and extended condolences on behalf of council and the community to Weir's family and friends and to the loved ones of all six people aboard.
